Overview & Highlights

Escape to Breakwater Coffee Shop & Bistro, an enchanting seaside restaurant perfectly situated on Berry Head Rd in Brixham, where culinary delights meet breathtaking views of the coast. This charming bistro embraces the heart of British dining, all while embracing the relaxed, friendly atmosphere that makes it an ideal spot for both locals and visitors alike.

This delightful establishment is especially well-known for its mouthwatering offerings that celebrate the best of local produce. Whether you're in the mood for a hearty homemade Steak Pasty or a comforting Sausage Roll, each bite is crafted with care and bursting with flavor. The Vegetable Pasty provides an exquisite option for vegetarian diners, showcasing seasonal produce that shines through in every flaky, golden pastry.

For a truly indulgent experience, don't miss the Traditional Afternoon Tea for Two, priced at just £29.95. Imagine sipping freshly brewed tea while savoring an array of delicacies, perfect for celebrating special moments or simply enjoying the good company of friends and loved ones.

The ambiance at Breakwater Coffee Shop & Bistro is notably welcoming, enhanced by the stunning views that invite you to relax and soak in the natural beauty around you. As noted by delighted customers, visiting during sunset transforms your meal into a postcard-worthy moment, particularly if you score a window table. One happy patron, Mrs. Meca, expressed her joy at discovering this dog-friendly haven, highlighting the friendly staff and excellent service that complement the equally stunning surroundings.

As you indulge in the delightful cuisine, your senses will be serenaded by the tantalizing aroma of fresh seafood dishes that are a highlight among guests. Emily Pomeroy raved about the memorable experience crafted from fresh, local seafood, served with a welcoming touch that made for an enchanting evening. And don't overlook the simple joys of garlic bread and cheesy chips, which provide a comforting accompaniment to a day filled with seaside adventures.

However, it's worth noting that the vibrant atmosphere sometimes includes furry friends, which, while embraced by many, may not suit every diner. As customer RobRoy McBinson observed, the presence of dogs can be a point of contention for some. Yet, the vast majority find this inclusive atmosphere a delightful aspect of their dining experience.

In summary, Breakwater Coffee Shop & Bistro is not just a restaurant; it’s an experience — one that merges good food with the glorious backdrop of Brixham's coastline. With its array of delectable offerings and a captivating view, this bistro is sure to create lasting memories for all who walk through its doors. Whether enjoying a casual lunch or an elegant afternoon tea, you’re guaranteed an inviting experience that resonates long after your meal is done. Don’t forget to book a table in advance; this little gem has become a beloved treasure that you won't want to miss.

Where to Visit

Visitor Testimonials (1884)

We visited this restaurant whilst on holiday and chose it due to having some dog friendly tables, excellent views and good reviews. We weren’t disappointed. The food is wonderful. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The beach location and views are amazing, particularly if you get a window table at sunset! Booking advised as this restaurant very popular. Their outside seating and hatch food and drink service was also very busy, offering a different menu but clearly very popular. There is a small car park outside (with multi-story next to it).

Thank you very much for our lovely dinner this week, it was a big treat to have all the delicious fresh local seafood, and the service was very welcoming and professional. It was a memorable evening.

Very beautiful views . Food ok but only had garlic bread and cheesy chips . Hubby had king prawns and he passed a comment that they was good . Staff very polite and helpful

We had a lovely meal overlooking the beach and seeing the sunset. The food was delicious and the staff were attentive. We would definitely recommend and would visit again when we are in Brixham.

The Breakwater Bistro is an absolute gem of British dining. The fish arrives encased in a light, golden batter—crisp, delicate, and utterly flawless—enveloping the freshest, most flavourful fillet one could hope for. Each bite is a masterclass in balance: a whisper of the sea, encased in perfection. The chips, too, are a triumph: beautifully crisp on the outside, fluffy within, and seasoned with just the right touch. Service here is exemplary—warm, attentive, and effortlessly professional. My partner and I travelled over 200 miles for what we had been promised was the finest fish and chips in the United Kingdom, and The Breakwater Bistro did not disappoint. Indeed, it exceeded all expectations. And then came dessert, which elevated the experience even further. The waffles were warm, soft, and gently crisp at the edges, a perfect canvas for indulgence. I savoured the Terry’s Chocolate Orange creation—an exquisite balance of rich cocoa and zesty citrus—while my partner delighted in the Strawberry Meringue, a symphony of airy crunch, ripe fruit, and silky cream. Both were exemplary, executed with finesse and presented with an elegance that transformed classic comfort into culinary artistry. A true delight from start to finish, and unquestionably worthy of every mile travelled. The Breakwater Bistro is highly recommended to anyone in pursuit of the very best Britain has to offer.

Great place to eat with good service good views & great food. But let down by the presence of dogs! So unhygienic and unhealthy- why the English allow dogs in a restaurant is beyond me. Yucky and disgusting for even behaved ones.

Breathtaking view and delicious food with a great service. Thank you for a wonderful time.

We popped down with the kids, as they always have so much fun splashing and playing in the water. It’s such a lovely spot for families to relax and enjoy the day. This time, we decided to treat ourselves to some crab sandwiches, and they did not disappoint — fresh, full of flavor, and absolutely delicious. Combined with the friendly atmosphere and beautiful surroundings, it made for a really enjoyable afternoon. We’ll definitely be coming back
